Chief of Police George Turner, MARTA Executive Director Ferdinand Risco, students, campus leadership and local businesses celebrate new campus opening
ATLANTA, March 3, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Westwood College has opened a new campus in the Peachtree Center. The 40,000-square-foot facility offers programs in technology, healthcare, business, design and justice. To celebrate the opening, City of Atlanta Chief of Police George Turner and MARTA Executive Director Ferdinand Risco delivered remarks to welcome Westwood to downtown Atlanta. They were joined by leaders from the City of Atlanta, Habitat for Humanity and the Georgia Department of Public Safety as well as area businesses such as Comcast, Wells Fargo, BroadRiver Communications, Universal Protection Services, Ritz Carlton, the Coca-Cola Company, Priority Healthcare and the Hertz Corporation. The opening event also included campus tours and a reception.
"We are extremely excited that Westwood College has chosen to relocate their midtown campus to downtown, and have made Peachtree Center their new home. The vibrant energy of their students, faculty and staff is already having a positive impact within our downtown community, and the new location will allow local businesses the opportunity to foster relationships with current and future graduates who are entering the workforce or seeking new career opportunities," said Roger Smoak, Senior Property Manager, BSC Realty Services, LLC, managing agent for Peachtree Center.
The new location in the Mall at Peachtree Center at 231 Peachtree Street NE, Suite 100 replaces the former midtown campus and currently serves almost 400 students. It is designed for growth and the college plans to expand the student population primarily in the high demand areas of healthcare and technology. The downtown business environment in Atlanta offers strong opportunities for internships and post-graduate employment, and the college is committed to continuing to build these relationships on behalf of its students.
"We are excited about the opportunities and benefits this move to downtown Atlanta affords our students and the college as a whole," said Tira Clay, Atlanta campus president of Westwood College. "Our students are committed to bettering their futures through education and work hard every day in pursuit of their passion. We are glad to partner with them to make this possible."
