Westwood College awards $62,500 in 2015 "Ready For More" Scholarships
The 45 winners will receive scholarships ranging from $500 to $10,000
DENVER, Aug. 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Westwood College's Ready for More scholarship program awarded $62,500 to 45 students who have proactively taken steps to plan their careers in advance of their graduation from Westwood College.
Since 2010, Westwood College has given $368,000 in scholarships to nearly 300 of its students as part of the program. This year's winners, from Westwood College's 14 campuses and online program, received between $500 and $10,000.
Tilton Jackson, a Graphic Design student at the Atlanta campus with an expected graduation date of May 2016, was awarded the $10,000 Platinum Scholarship. In his scholarship entry, Jackson shared how he is already taking control of his career by setting up weekly networking meetings with graphic design professionals, in addition to getting good grades and working hard every day to advance his skills as part of the Westwood College design program.
"My career goal as a graphic designer is to create brilliant images through drawings, paintings, photographs and mixed media that are undeniably appealing and provide thought and feeling to everyone who gazes upon them," said Jackson, a father of three who works full time while attending Westwood College. "Whether I'm working for a design firm, a corporation or doing a freelance project, I want my work to speak for itself."
In addition to Jackson, winners from each campus and the online program received either a $2,000 gold scholarship, $1,000 silver scholarship or $500 bronze scholarship.
"The Ready For More scholarship program rewards students who have the initiative to take detailed steps while still in school to help them land meaningful work in their field after they graduate," said Rick Yaconis, president of Westwood College. "Our programs give our students the real world tools to be successful in their careers, and this scholarship encourages them to take personal responsibility to launch their careers."
