Westlake High School INCubatoredu Team Recognized on National App Day
BARRINGTON, Ill., Dec. 11, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- National App Day, Dec. 11, highlights the positivity apps have on today's culture by promoting creativity and innovation. This focus is exemplified by a student team from Westlake High School in Austin, TX, who are developing a state-of-the-art gaming app while participating in the INCubatoredu entrepreneurship program.
The INCubatoredu program provides students real-world entrepreneurship experience by challenging them to work in teams to develop, test and iterate a business model throughout the academic year. The Westlake student team focused their business concept on creating a ground-breaking app, which provides fantasy football fans a revolutionary new way to engage in the sport.
The gaming app, GameTime Live, creates a unique experience for users who watch football games on TV. Users predict outcomes such as: will a team or a specific player score on the next drive. Correct predictions yield points to the user and the player with the most points is awarded a prize at game-end. GameTime Live users will predict outcomes for NFL football games, post-season playoff games and the Super Bowl. GameTime Live will also be offered for the College Football Playoffs and National Championship game.
GameTime Live has received enthusiastic praise for inventiveness and ingenuity. They won $10,000 from the year-end local INCubatoredu competition and an additional $10,000 at the National Pitch Competition this summer. These monies provided the resources for the team to further develop their app this past INCubatoredu semester and create an authentic business.
The student team, led by Wes Mizell, CEO, chose to capitalize on their individual strengths and interests. Hudson Yancer, Ben Pankonein, and William Barksdale focused their technological skills on expanding the app offerings. Reed Senterfitt and Thad Hutchison contributed their business aptitudes to establish GameTime Live as a Delaware C Corporation, filed for Texas business license and trademarking. As a result, GameTime Live will be available on the App Store by year-end for the playoffs.
"Working on GameTime Live has been extremely invigorating and we've enjoyed working as a team," Mizell said. "We're all applying to business schools and look forward to continuing to develop our GameTime Live app."
INCubatoredu congratulates the GameTime Live team on National App Day for their innovative app and future success!
