Westinghouse Announces Retirement of Ramsey Coates, Senior Vice President and General Counsel, Legal and Contracts

PITTSBURGH, July 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Westinghouse Electric Company today announced the retirement of Ramsey Coates as the company’s senior vice president and general counsel, Legal and Contracts, effective August 1, 2011.  

Mr. Coates joined Westinghouse in 1976 as a general international attorney in the former Westinghouse Electric Corporation corporate law department. He served in positions of increasing responsibility, both domestically and internationally, before being appointed 14 years ago to the position of senior vice president and general counsel.

Effective upon Mr. Coates’ retirement, Mike Sweeney is appointed senior vice president and general counsel, Legal and Contracts.

Mr. Sweeney has served since August 2010 as vice president and deputy general counsel. He previously served as assistant general counsel for the company’s Nuclear Services and Nuclear Automation product lines, including responsibility for global legal matters.

Prior to joining Westinghouse in 2005, Mr. Sweeney was a partner in the Pittsburgh-based law firm of Pietragallo, Bosick and Gordon. From 1989 to 2000, he held positions of increasing responsibility with the law department of CBS Corporation, formerly Westinghouse Electric Corporation.

Mr. Sweeney will report directly to Westinghouse president and CEO Dr. Aris Candris, who said: “For the past 35 years, Ramsey Coates has provided trusted advice and dedicated support through numerous positions in Westinghouse Legal.
