"The installation of this premiere honor society at WGU demonstrates that our NCATE-accredited Teachers College is producing teachers who are being recognized for their excellence," said Cindy Riley, one of the faculty advisors for WGU's Kappa Delta Pi chapter. Fellow advisor Heather Dodds agreed, "As one of the few online -- and the only competency-based -- Teachers Colleges to be accepted in Kappa Delta Pi, we are looking forward to the additional development and enrichment that membership in the society will offer to our students and alumni."
The new WGU chapter will focus on literacy efforts, service projects, and lifelong learning initiatives. To be eligible to join Kappa Delta Pi, members must meet or surpass stringent academic standards, complete a specified number of hours of collegiate coursework, and exhibit exceptional leadership qualities. KDP chapters also offer unique opportunities for members to connect with other educators in their local areas, as well as provide resources and tools for enhancing their effectiveness as educators.
The Society is committed to promoting excellence in education, advancing scholarship, and embracing leadership and service. More information regarding Kappa Delta Pi is available at http://alumni.wgu.edu/KDP.
