In 2008, West Virginia Health Right launched West Virginia Rx (WVRx) — the state's only charitable mail-order pharmacy. WVRx provides branded prescription drugs for chronic illnesses at no cost to West Virginians who are uninsured or underinsured with household incomes 200% or less of the federal poverty level.
The goal of WVRx is to improve the health of individuals by providing life-sustaining medications they otherwise could not afford. WVRx has served nearly 56,000 West Virginians, including processing and shipping more than 150,000 prescriptions, and referring more than 12,500 patients to public or private clinics for care and treatment.
"WVRx helps ensure prescription medications are accessible to the most vulnerable among us," said Patricia White, founder and Executive Director of West Virginia Health Right. "It also allows drug manufacturers to keep their commitment to get medications to chronically ill people who are unable to afford them."
