West China Hospital, Sichuan University ranks the first among all Chinese hospitals for four consecutive years in science & technology influence
CHENGDU, China, Dec. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- On December 19, 2017, the Chinese Hospital Science & Technology Influence Ranking Launch Ceremony & Fifth China Medicine Science Development Forum sponsored by Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) was hold in Beijing by the Institute of Medical Information, CAMS. West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Chinese PLA General Hospital, and Peking Union Medical College Hospital of CAMS ranked the top three among all hospitals. This event also released the ranking concerning 29 second level clinical subjects, including cardiovascular disease, oncology, and respiratory medicine, and some level 3 subjects as well as evaluation and ranking concerning regional science & technology influence of different hospitals in 31 provinces, municipalities, and autonomous regions across the nation. The hospitals considered in 2017 Chinese Hospital Science & Technology Influence Ranking included 1151 tertiary hospitals published at the official website of National Health and Family Planning Commission of the People's Republic of China as well as PLA hospitals, traditional Chinese medical hospitals (including hospitals of integrated traditional and western medicine), and other tertiary hospitals, adding up to a total number of 1629. The indexes adopted for evaluation included science & technology investment, science & technology outcome, and academic influence, covering three level 1 indexes, seven level 2 indexes, and 21 level 3 indexes. Three new subjects, i.e. emergency medicine, burn surgery, and nursing science, were added to the range of evaluation in 2017, leading to 29 subjects under evaluation in total.
Among the 27 subjects (excluding oral medicine and gynemetrics) in which West China Hospital, Sichuan University was evaluated, it ranked among top 3 in 7 subjects, top 5 in 14 subjects, top 10 in 20 subjects, and entered the ranking list of all 27 subjects. As far as the specific subjects are concerned, West China Hospital, Sichuan University ranked No. 1 in emergency medicine and nursing, No. 2 in respiratory medicine and urinary surgery, and No. 3 in general surgery, thoracic surgery, and neurology. In the regional rankings, it ranked the first in 25 subjects, and the second in 2 subjects.
West China Hospital of Sichuan University originated from Yan Chai Hospital founded by USA, Canada, and UK Christian churches at Chengdu, Sichuan in 1892. West China Medical School dates back to Medical Department of West China Union University established in 1914, which was back then a medical school created by USA, Canada, and UK Christian churches based on western medical education models. For long, the school/hospital has been involved in a great variety of international exchange activities, especially high-end cooperation with well-known international medical organizations.
