WellHome President Larry Laseter Speaks at Senate Press Conference Today on Behalf of HOME STAR Coalition, Clean Energy Jobs
WASHINGTON, July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Affirming the critical need for clean energy jobs and the bi-partisan home energy efficiency program HOME STAR, WellHome President Larry Laseter joined Senator Majority Leader Reid and Senators Stabenow and Menendez at a press conference today on the recently introduced Clean Energy Jobs and Oil Accountability Act. WellHome, a subsidiary of leading home improvement company Masco Corporation (NYSE: MAS), is a national provider of energy efficiency home improvement services.
Laseter voiced support for the proposed HOME STAR program, which is a key element of the four-part bill, on behalf of the HOME STAR Coalition, a broad group of more than 2,600 industry, labor, energy and environmental supporters, the majority of which are small and mid-sized businesses representing all 50 states.
"The 2,600 members of the HOME STAR Coalition stand together in support of the bi-partisan HOME STAR program, which will deliver a rare triple win for the American people in the form of jobs, savings for consumers, and a positive impact on energy independence and the environment," Laseter said in his remarks at the Capitol. "We urge swift action by the Senate to pass this legislation quickly. While HOME STAR has raised awareness of home energy efficiency and more consumers are having their homes assessed, twice as many consumers are delaying the retrofit work itself in anticipation of HOME STAR. The time for HOME STAR is now."
The HOME STAR program is designed to provide rebates and other financial incentives to encourage homeowners to weatherize their homes and make other energy efficiency improvements. To supply this increased demand for home energy improvements, businesses will create skilled jobs and spur increased manufacturing of insulation, windows, HVAC equipment and other products predominantly produced in the United States.
"Rarely is there an initiative with a near-universal benefit, but that is exactly what we have with the HOME STAR program," Laseter said. "I applaud this bi-partisan bill and the Senate leadership for championing this cause."
