WellDog Receives U.S. Award for Export Success
Prestigious "E" Award ranks WellDog among most instrumental and innovative U.S.-based exporters
LARAMIE, Wyo., May 16, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- WellDog announced today that U.S. Secretary of Commerce, Penny Pritzker, has presented WellDog with the President's "E" Award for Exports at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. today. The President's "E" Award is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports and excellence in export market innovation.
"WellDog has demonstrated a sustained commitment to export expansion," said Secretary Pritzker. "The 'E' Awards Committee was very impressed with WellDog's substantial growth in export sales from 2012-2015. The Company's focus on economic, environmental and societal sustainability was also particularly notable. WellDog's achievements have undoubtedly contributed to national export expansion efforts that support the U.S. economy and create American jobs."
WellDog started in Wyoming in 1999 to focus on increasing environmental and economic sustainability of coalbed methane in the Powder River Basin. In 2010, driven by the global financial crisis, the company began exporting its products and services to Australia, where it became one of the top suppliers to the Queensland coalbed methane industry. Clean burning gas was then sold in markets throughout Asia.
"The low cost coalbed methane environment taught us to develop cutting edge technical solutions and deliver them using innovative, cost-effective business models," said John M. Pope, president and CEO of WellDog. "We have found those lessons to be invaluable in helping us be useful across a range of industries, geomarkets and technical challenges."
WellDog subsequently addressed important challenges around greenhouse gas emissions from coal mines and adapted its products and services to enabling commercial scale up of carbon capture and sequestration. The company then brought its expanded business back to the US to increase competitiveness of domestic shale operators and subsequently into China to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality. Today, WellDog operates actively on three continents.
ABOUT Presidential "E" Award: In 1961, President Kennedy signed an executive order reviving the World War II "E" symbol of excellence to honor and provide recognition to America's exporters. Today, Secretary Pritzker honored 123 U.S. companies with the President's "E" Award for their outstanding work to reduce barriers to foreign markets and to open the door to more trade around the world.
In 2015, U.S. exports totaled $2.23 trillion, accounting for nearly 13 percent of U.S. GDP. Nationally, exports contributed to the U.S. economy, supporting an estimated 11.5 million jobs.
U.S. companies are nominated for the "E" Awards through the Department of Commerce's U.S. Commercial Service office network, located within the Department's International Trade Administration, with offices in 108 U.S. cities and more than 70 countries. Record years of successive export growth and an applicant's demonstration of an innovative international marketing plan that led to the increase in exports is a significant factor in selecting the winners.
