ATLANTA, Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Wellcentive, the industry leader in end-to-end population health management (PHM) for healthcare organizations, is one of only two vendors cited as a "standout" in both product and market categories in Chilmark Research's 2014 Analytics for Population Health Management Market Trends Report. This report marks the fourth time in the past year that an independent analyst assessment has recognized the strength of Wellcentive's solution for population health management (PHM).
The report assessed 19 vendors along two categories: product capabilities and ability to execute in the market. Wellcentive's high rating in the product category defined strength in aggregating data, delivering population insights, and enabling providers to act on these insights through PHM workflow and patient engagement tools. The company's high rating in the market category reflects its ability to align its market vision with market needs.
"We are extremely honored, and pleased that the strength of our solution and our insight into the market has been recognized by another top analyst firm," said Tom Zajac, Wellcentive's CEO. "Health reform, incentive-based quality programs and rising rates of chronic care conditions are creating a pressing demand for population health management solutions today. Many vendors are flocking to this need, but our nine years of PHM experience and continued focus on innovation and insight drives our ability to deliver value to our customers, helping healthcare organizations improve the health, quality and cost of care for their patients."
Wellcentive's strengths highlighted in the report include:
- Real-time monitoring and alerting: Wellcentive received the highest-possible rating for its monitoring and alerting functionality, highlighting the solution's advanced approach to alerting the right caregiver at the right time of their patients' care needs.
- Focus on data quality: Wellcentive distinguished itself in the report for its focus on data quality. In a market where, according to the report, data quality concerns are becoming critical, Wellcentive has the technology and services capabilities to tackle the issue. The report calls out current functionality—interface monitoring, alerts, search capabilities and crowd-sourcing features that allow office staff to directly correct data—and capabilities currently in development such as a model for predicting data quality problems.
- Delivering benefits of both best-of-breed and platform solutions: The report categorizes PHM vendors as best-of-breed or platform players but acknowledges that the distinction between the two is blurring. It recognizes Wellcentive as a vendor that operates across the best-of-breed and platform spectrum, offering benefits of both approaches. The company is able to get its "low cost, flexible all-in-one solution up and running quickly" in the manner of a best-of-breed solution and is also "highly capable when it comes to all the major quality programs being used in the market today. On the other hand, Wellcentive has over the years built a more platform-like offering to serve both FFS volume needs as well as an array of different VBR needs." One of the strengths of Wellcentive's platform approach is its "significant data aggregation capabilities," notably "impressive capabilities in ambulatory data capture."
- Flexible architecture for changing business rules: The report praises Wellcentive's flexibility in dealing with business rules. In an environment where PHM business rules are "problematic … volatile [and] nonstandard," Wellcentive has "architected its platform in such a way that users can access granular data to build out business rules — while at the same time modeling data into a single source-of-truth. … [T]his capability is typically offered by platform-centric vendors, not best-of-breed vendors. The end result is that Wellcentive offers a more flexible approach to business rule customization."
- Fully integrated predictive analytics: The report notes Wellcentive's integration of the Johns Hopkins ACG population-based predictive modeling system into its solution to serve clients moving into risk-based contracts. These fully vetted algorithms deliver a quantitative picture of potential health risks and cost drivers within a selected population of patients.
"Wellcentive offers an important function of a complete PHM strategy — and delivers this best-of-breed functionality all within one solution stack, while at the same time architecting the company's solution in a more flexible manner than most best-of-breed peers," said Chilmark Research analyst Cora Sharma, author of the report. "Wellcentive has gathered market momentum, and continues moving forward with its vision of automated, scalable, low-cost PHM."
