NEW YORK AND TAMPA, Fla., March 29, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- WellCare of New York, a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans, Inc., (NYSE:WCG), announced today the grand opening of its newest Welcome Room in Manhattan. Located at 35 E. Broadway, the community center will serve the Chinatown neighborhood.
WellCare Welcome Rooms are neighborhood health information, education and activity centers. Open to the public, they offer a comfortable environment where visitors can ask questions about Medicaid, Medicare and Managed Long Term Care, and members can get help accessing needed care and services. Welcome Rooms also host dozens of free events each month, ranging from exercise and nutrition classes to education on preventive health, safety and disease management topics.
"WellCare is proud to bring our newest Welcome Room to Chinatown, providing additional local resources to support health education and awareness," said Ryan Fogarty, vice president, WellCare of New York. "This location makes it easier for our members and the local community to access the tools and information they need to make health care decisions for themselves and their families that can lead to better, healthier lives."
To demonstrate its ongoing commitment to the community, WellCare also presented a $3,000 donation to the Chinese-American Planning Council, Inc. (CPC). CPC is the nation's largest Asian-American social services agency, which provides culturally competent, linguistically appropriate services for 8,000 people of all ages through more than 50 programs at 33 locations in Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. The council will use the funding for its early childhood education program, which serves nearly 200 children ages 2 to 4 years old, in its five centers in Chinatown and the Lower East Side.
"CPC is thankful for the support from WellCare," said Wayne Ho, president and CEO of the Chinese-American Planning Council. "WellCare's donation will help to ensure that children ages 2 through 4 will continue to receive high-quality educational, social, and recreational programming through CPC."
