NEWARK, N.J. and TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 2, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- WellCare Health Plans of New Jersey, Inc., a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans, Inc., (NYSE: WCG), announced today two new incentive programs to promote positive health outcomes for its members.
The first program, which began Jan. 1, 2016, recognizes the vital connection between prenatal care for mothers and positive health outcomes for newborns. WellCare Health Plans of New Jersey is rewarding expectant mothers who are their members in the NJ FamilyCare program and obstetricians belonging to its network for providing quality prenatal and postpartum care. Regular prenatal visits can help an obstetrician monitor the pregnancy and identify any problems or complications before they become serious. Preventing low birth weight is a critical step in ensuring a healthy baby and delivery.
"Our goal is for mothers to have healthy pregnancies and healthy babies," said John Kirchner, president of WellCare Health Plans of New Jersey. "Mothers who don't receive prenatal care have a much greater chance of having low-birth weight babies. Our program provides free strollers for expectant mothers who attend all recommended visits, as well as bonus payments for physicians."
The second program, which began April 1, 2016, rewards physicians for providing preventive and wellness care. In addition to being reimbursed for services delivered, providers receive an additional bonus payment for services such as annual check-ups, immunizations and recommended screenings for WellCare Health Plans of New Jersey's members in NJ FamilyCare, Medicare and Managed Long Term Services and Supports programs.
"The basis of these programs is to reward physicians who partner with us to help our members achieve and maintain optimal health," said Kirchner. "These incentives are designed to recognize and reward physicians who deliver proactive, preventive health care."
WellCare is available in 10 New Jersey counties: Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Morris, Passaic, Somerset, Sussex and Union. Members can contact Member Services at 888-453-2534, TTY 877-247-6272, if they have questions about these programs. Providers with questions can contact their Provider Relations representative.
As of September 30, 2016, WellCare serves approximately 57,000 NJ FamilyCare members, 1,000 Medicare Advantage members, 31,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members, and 4,000 Managed Long Term Care Services and Supports members in New Jersey.
