TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 12, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- WellCare of Florida, a subsidiary of WellCare Health Plans, Inc. (NYSE: WCG) received a rating of 4 out of 5 stars for its Plan Year 2018 Medicare plans from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) for quality and service.

The Medicare Star quality rating system provides beneficiaries with a way to assess Medicare health plans so they can make an informed decision when selecting a plan. CMS uses the Star rating system to annually rank Medicare health plans on a scale of 1 to 5 Stars, with five Stars representing the highest level of quality. Overall scores are based on care and service quality measures across nine categories, including staying healthy, managing chronic conditions, member satisfaction, customer service and pharmacy services. The Star ratings also measure health plans compliance performance.
WellCare is now enrolling Medicare-eligible Floridians for the 2018 Medicare annual election (AEP) period, which ends Dec. 7, 2017. Medicare-eligible individuals can learn more about WellCare's Medicare Advantage Plans at www.WellCareNow.com.
As of June 30, 2017, WellCare serves approximately 768,000 Medicaid members, of which 64,000 members are in the Florida Healthy Kids program, 100,000 Medicare Advantage members, and 30,000 Medicare Prescription Drug Plan members in Florida.
Medicare evaluates plans based on a 5-star rating system. Star Ratings are calculated each year and may change from one year to the next.
