WENATCHEE, Wash., Oct. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Weidner Apartment Homes, a local multifamily developer and owner, is making significant investments in downtown Wenatchee to expand housing options and restore the Wenatchee Jailhouse into a bustling commercial space.
The cornerstone of Weidner's investment is The Majestic Apartments, a seven-story, 212-unit residential community designed with Milbrandt Architects. Inspired by downtown Wenatchee's architecture, The Majestic will feature a brick exterior, arched entries, and distinctive Art Deco design. The development will also add 100 public parking stalls within its underground garage, expanding downtown parking and encouraging foot traffic to nearby businesses. The Majestic is expected to be completed in summer 2027 and will build upon the existing 1,626 residential units Weidner has developed in Moses Lake, Leavenworth, and Wenatchee.
In front of The Majestic, Weidner is bringing new life to a piece of the city's history by restoring the former Wenatchee Jailhouse. The 2,736-square-foot building, built in 1910, once served as the city's jail and has been vacant for decades. Weidner partnered with Graham Baba Architects to preserve and adapt the historic structure for future food-and-beverage use. Dime Food Group, a local restaurant group, will operate the jailhouse's two new commercial spaces, planned as a Spanish-style deli and a speakeasy. The revitalization is expected to be completed in summer 2027.
Weidner's commitment to Wenatchee extends beyond real estate development. Weidner donated $7.5M to the Wenatchee Valley Museum and Cultural Center to support its renovation and continued celebration of the region's rich history. In December 2025, Weidner's late founder and chairman, W. Dean Weidner, purchased the historic Wenatchee Valley YMCA's Lake Wenatchee Camp and entered into a 99-year, low-cost lease agreement with the YMCA to preserve this opportunity for local youth in the Wenatchee Valley and across Washington. In addition, Weidner contributed $2M as an endowed gift to preserve the camp and support its stability.
"Weidner has an 18-year history of developing housing within the Wenatchee Valley, and our experience has been overwhelmingly positive," said Nick Nowotarski, Development Director at Weidner Apartment Homes. "We share the city's goal to encourage economic development within the downtown core while preserving Wenatchee's strong sense of community and character. Weidner is excited to be part of that growth."
Weidner's longstanding commitment to Wenatchee reflects the appreciation Dean Weidner had for the region. Dean was drawn to its natural beauty and quality of life, with access to the Columbia River, nearby skiing, and Washington wine country, as well as the character of historic downtown Wenatchee.
Dean Weidner embraced Wenatchee through targeted investments in housing, local businesses, historic preservation, and community organizations, supporting his goal of enhancing what makes the city distinctive while sustaining a vibrant community for generations to come.
