Wegowise Launches data.wegowise.com to Showcase Multifamily Utility Trends
First-of-its-kind interactive website demonstrates power of data visualization
BOSTON, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- WegoWise, a utility intelligence provider, today launched data.wegowise.com to reveal insights into multifamily building utility trends through interactive graphics. The first-of-its-kind website provides analysis of energy and water use over time, with data drawn from the largest database of multifamily utility data in the world. WegoWise designed the visualizations to powerfully communicate the stark disparity between efficient and inefficient buildings and highlight the underexplored multifamily space.

Visitors to data.wegowise.com can interact with graphics to reveal how incremental changes can drastically affect utility bills. For example, if the 50 percent least efficient apartments became as efficient as the top 50 percent, multifamily buildings in Massachusetts could save 914 million gallons of water each month.
"We created WegoWise to advance the building efficiency field by helping people understand and act on their utility data," said Barun Singh, WegoWise co-founder and Chief Technology Officer. "We use engaging visualizations to highlight opportunities that drive down usage and costs. Data.wegowise.com builds on top of this expertise to demonstrate more macro-level trends. It allows the public to see how we can leverage millions of meter readings to better understand, and thus improve, the efficiency of the built environment."
Data.wegowise.com will be updated on a regular basis with additional visualizations and new data. It is being launched with five visualizations:
- Flushing away excess water usage: plotting water bills after a typical retrofit illustrates ongoing savings
- A flock of buildings: exploring tenant comfort by graphing the seasonal swings between gas and electricity use
- Potential water savings: contextualizing water savings with comparisons to a range of buildings
- New England bill breakdown: tracking New England utility bills as they shift over the course of the year
- State showdown: CA vs MA: comparing monthly utility bills between CA and MA
"At WegoWise, we are firm believers in the power of data visualization to provide insights and effect behavior change. The graphs at data.wegowise.com are examples of how we use visualization to begin to intuit the millions of monthly utility readings streaming into our database," said John Rutherford, data scientist at WegoWise. "Data.wegowise.com goes beyond an infographic by providing a playful, dynamic resource that invites deeper engagement."
