National Youth Violence Summit Draws High-Level Officials – The National Summit on Preventing Youth Violence will be held on Monday, April 2, and Tuesday, April 3, at the Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C. Mayors, police chiefs, school officials and youth, among other local representatives, will report on their youth violence prevention efforts as part of National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention. BJA Improves Website, Offers Customized Access to Information – The Office of Justice Program's (OJP) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) recently redesigned its website. Highlights include MyBJA, which enables users to register and receive customized information such as Events Near Me allowing users to search for programs by city/state or zip code. The new design also has a My Favorites section, allowing users to save content, and an Events page containing BJA and related criminal justice events from around the country filtered by location. A keyword search of events is offered. New and important BJA announcements, such as grant solicitations or new publications, are found on the homepage. An option to "Tour the New Site" is offered to all new and repeat users.
BJS Updates Ucrdatatool.gov With 2010 Data – Two Justice Department agencies, the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), recently announced that 2010 Uniform Crime Reporting Program data have been added to the online data access tool, www.ucrdatatool.gov. This table-building tool provides national- and state-level crime data from 1960 through 2010. View it at www.bjs.gov.
BJS Releases JAG Program, 2011; BJA Announces JAG Solicitations – The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) released the technical report Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program 2011, describing formulas used to allocate state and local JAG awards. The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) administers the JAG program, and BJS calculates the JAG formulas. BJA announced the JAG solicitation on Thursday, March 29.
