Significant Quarter-over-Quarter Growth
Sales results for Webroot SecureAnywhere™ software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions and security intelligence services remained strong, showing significant year-over-year growth across all of the company's target markets. Bookings grew 93 percent in the small and medium business segment (SMB), 31 percent in the OEM segment, and 19 percent in the consumer segment compared to the second fiscal quarter of 2012. Increased strength in new business contributed to this growth, with the addition of nearly 1.2 million new home users and over 100,000 new business users added during the quarter.
"The end of the calendar year has historically been a very strong period for Webroot's business, and this year was no exception," said Dick Williams, Webroot CEO. "We feel the market is recognizing that our paradigm-shifting approach to internet security offers extraordinary protection in an increasingly dangerous world. We added over 1.2 million new users and signed many new partners last quarter. Our growth rates are among the best in the industry and we think they will only improve from here."
Consumer and Mobile Security Solution Updates
Webroot's acquisition of new customers was driven, in part, by the release of updates to several of the company's flag-ship products. First, Webroot released updates to its entire Webroot SecureAnywhere® portfolio for individuals and families. Since introducing the line in 2011, Webroot has steadily increased sales in the segment, becoming the U.S. retail market-share leader last year.
In addition, to help businesses address the growing challenge of securing employee-owned devices, known as "bring-your-own-device", or BYOD, Webroot released an updated version of Webroot SecureAnywhere Business – Mobile Protection which enables IT administrators to maintain protection, and manage mobile security policies of company-owned, and employee-owned, mobile devices more efficiently.
Customer Wins Continue in Second Quarter
During the quarter, Webroot announced the two-time Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos football team had chosen Webroot SecureAnywhere® Business – Endpoint Protection to help protect the team's highly distributed and mobile information technology (IT) environment.
"Webroot has fortified and simplified our security platform," said Chris Newman, IT Architect for the Denver Broncos. "From deployment and installation to performance, monitoring, reporting and technical support, Webroot has exceeded our expectations. Our ability to protect and monitor our organization's devices regardless of platform is invaluable. If you are looking at changing endpoint security vendors, it would be a mistake not to consider Webroot as a frontrunner."
Other customer wins included NetCitadel, the pioneer in innovative threat management solutions, who announced it was embedding Webroot® IP Reputation Service into its ThreatOptics™ Threat Management Platform (TMP) to provide contextual data such as IP reputation, threat type, and geo-location data for security incidents.
In addition, Ally Bank, the direct banking subsidiary of Ally Financial Inc., announced it is providing Webroot SecureAnywhere technology to its customers in order to protect their entire online experience.
Channel Partnerships Accelerate Expansion
Throughout the quarter, Webroot secured a number of partnerships to rapidly expand delivery of its security services and technologies worldwide. During the quarter, Weboot announced a strategic partnership with LabTech Software to integrate the cloud-based Webroot management console and Labtech's remote monitoring and management platform. This enabled Webroot's growing network of managed service providers (MSPs) to deliver endpoint security services more easily and efficiently.
Webroot also added Australia-based distributor Bluechip Infotech, expanding Webroot's reach across the Australian market by giving Bluechip InfoTech's nationwide network of resellers access to market-leading endpoint and mobile security solutions. Webroot also expanded into the Malaysian market with the addition of Agile Networks to its rapidly growing network of distributors.
Industry Accolades
Webroot's new consumer releases were met with broad industry praise, including PCMag's top editorial honor, the Editors' Choice, for Webroot SecureAnywhere AntiVirus and Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Complete for the third consecutive year. This designation is given to products that meet the highest qualifications and standards of PCMag's editorial staff, and this year marks the 16th time Webroot products have been awarded Editors' Choice. Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus was also named to PCmag's Best AntiVirus of the Year list for the third consecutive year.
Forrester Research also presented Webroot with its Groundswell Award in recognition of the Webroot Ambassador Program as an industry best practice for engaging customers through social programs.
