Webroot Announces Latest Release of Cloud-Based Web Security Service
BOULDER, Colo., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Webroot, the first Internet security service company, today announced the latest version of Webroot® Web Security Service. Updates include new Web activity reports that enable IT administrators to better manage bandwidth usage and prevent "repeat policy offenders" from putting the company's network at risk. Enhancements also include a new reporting infrastructure that provides administrators with instant access to custom data at any level of granularity.
Webroot has introduced the updates in response to continued market demand for security delivered in the cloud as part of a software-as-a-service (SaaS) model, which make it easier for businesses to protect customer, employee and corporate information. In a recent survey of IT decision-makers at small-to-medium sized businesses, one-third said they plan to implement such security services by 2012. (1)
Industry analysts have also projected a continued shift toward security services.
"We are seeing considerable movement from security software to SaaS, especially for messaging and Web security," said Chris Christiansen, Program Vice President, Security Products and Services, IDC. "Customers demand more flexibility so practically every security vendor will offer a SaaS alternative to hardware-based appliances and software licenses. SaaS will move from its traditional strength in messaging and Web into other markets such as vulnerability and identity management."
The latest version of Webroot Web Security Service ensures IT administrators have access to new dynamic and interactive reports showing bandwidth trends, as well as trends among employees attempting to access allowed and blocked Web sites. This allows IT administrators to better manage their companies' security and Internet usage policies, as well as to better protect employees' and customers' sensitive information.
Along with these features, the latest update to Webroot Web Security Service includes global availability of the company's vulnerability scanning features. The feature offers weekly and monthly tests for more than 400 common vulnerabilities found in the operating system, Web browsers, browser plug-ins, Microsoft Office suite, media players, instant messaging software and various third-party solutions – the most common ways Web-based malware is delivered to business and consumer computers.
"As an industry, we've been embracing the cloud as the most effective way to deliver security," said Gerhard Eschelbeck, chief technology officer, Webroot. "We are pleased to see continued migration toward cloud-based security services among our customers who are recognizing the benefits of better protection and better manageability over traditional solutions."
