Issues and challenges observed in first wave of SEC filings

OTTAWA, June 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ - On 19 June 2014, Claigan Environmental Inc. (www.claigan.com) will present a webinar on the summarized content of the conflict minerals reports submitted to the SEC for the 2013 reporting period, including observed issues and challenges arising from the data.  Companies under scope of Section 1502 of the Dodd-Frank Act are required to submit a Conflict Minerals Report to the SEC as an exhibit to their specialized disclosure report (Form SD) if they are sourcing conflict minerals from the DRC or surrounding region.  These reports contained a variety of results including links to sourcing from the Democratic Republic of Congo and to North Korea.

This webinar will describe and summarize the data submitted, due diligence processes described, gaps in data and processes, and impact on the conflict minerals work for the 2014 reporting period.  In particular, the webinar will focus on the issues that resulted in companies receiving negative headlines, and commitments made by companies that will affect what suppliers are asked by their customers.  One topic that will be investigated in some detail will be the reporting of North Korea as a supplier of gold.
