Weber Shandwick Named PR Agency of Record for American Cancer Society
WASHINGTON, April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Weber Shandwick, one of the world's leading global public relations firms, today announced that it has been selected as the strategic communications agency of record by the American Cancer Society, the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem. After a competitive process, the agency was chosen to support communications efforts about the Society's cancer education and services programs. The 2015 communications work will include many key global initiatives, such as promoting research discoveries, educating people about prevention and detection guidelines for lung, colon, breast and other cancers and the Great American Smokeout.
"We had a very thorough process that included the participation of world-renowned and committed agencies," said Raul Duany, senior vice president of Corporate Communications at the American Cancer Society. "We were most impressed by Weber Shandwick's creativity, bold ideas and breadth of corporate partnerships that will help us drive global engagement to reach more people and help us further our mission to prevent cancer, save lives and diminish suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service."
The firm's role with the American Cancer Society builds on the extensive public health campaign and alliance expertise that Weber Shandwick delivers on behalf of global nonprofits, healthcare associations, government agencies, biopharmaceutical companies, consumer health products and hospitals. The agency's Healthcare practice has led an extensive roster of initiatives focused on a range of diseases, including mental illness, heart disease, cancer, diabetes and HIV/AIDS.
"This mission is personal for us," said Pam Jenkins, president, Powell Tate | Weber Shandwick. Cancer is pervasive and touches so many lives. We look forward to partnering with the Society to reduce the burden of this devastating disease."
