GREAT ABACO, The Bahamas, Dec. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The Abaco Club on Winding Bay will once again host the PGA TOUR stars of tomorrow on the No. 1-ranked golf course in The Bahamas. The Bahamas Great Abaco Classic will be held the week of January 18-24, featuring a 132-player field and $600,000 purse, with the winner receiving a $108,000 first-place prize.
Launched in 2017, the Bahamas Great Abaco Classic is one of the season-opening events on the Web.com Tour and will include tournament rounds contested Sunday through Wednesday, with all rounds broadcast live on Golf Channel.
The Abaco Club is one of the premier venues on the Web.com Tour schedule. The Scottish-style tropical links course plays along both scenic Winding Bay and The Atlantic Ocean and stretches out to 7,111 yards.
"All of us at Southworth Development, along with the residents, members and staff of The Abaco Club, are thrilled to be part of the positive momentum the Web.com Tour has established," said David Southworth, Founder and CEO of Southworth Development. "It's an honor to play host to some of the best golfers on the planet and see them thoroughly enjoying their time both on and off the course here at The Abaco Club."
Golf fans are invited to join the excitement at the Great Abaco Classic Pro-Am, January 17-21. This year's Pro-Am, hosted by 2011 British Open Champion and 2016 European Ryder Cup Team Captain (and Abaco Club resident) Darren Clarke, offers two chances to play with the stars of the Web.com Tour on the club's beautiful and award-winning Scottish-style tropical links course. Players will also enjoy golf clinics with the pros, island excursions, parties on and off the beach, and more.
"I immediately loved the golf course," said 2017 event champion Andrew Landry. "From where our dining was at, the whole atmosphere, the whole beach scene, and our rooms – everything was just fantastic. The golf course was in unbelievable shape, the greens were great, and I just loved the setup of everything. It was a fantastic place to come with family or friends to enjoy golf, and there were plenty of activities on one of the greatest secluded beaches I've ever seen."
The Web.com Tour is the path to the PGA TOUR, with 475 PGA TOUR victories coming from former Web.com Tour players – including 23 majors and seven PLAYERS Championships. Last year's Great Abaco Classic champion, Andrew Landry went on to earn his PGA Tour card for 2018.
