RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- WebAssign, the leading provider of powerful online instructional tools for faculty and students, has launched a collection of innovative physics videos designed to complement any physics textbook.

The Physics Explorations with Direct Measurement Videos collection features physics questions with embedded videos of actual events and systems, such as objects colliding and rockets launching. The videos utilize rulers, grids, frame-counters, and other graphical overlays that enable students to make measurements directly from the video to analyze and apply physics concepts.
Following WebAssign tradition, these videos were created by a teacher, veteran physics instructor Peter Bohacek, who was looking for ways to enhance his students' learning. "Direct measurement videos offer many advantages over traditional word-problems," explained Bohacek. "Instead of simply describing the launch of a rocket, these videos show the launch in all its spectacular glory. Not only is this captivating and engaging, but it actually changes the way students think and strengthens their connection between the numerical value (5 seconds) and a physical quantity (the time for the rocket to travel 80 meters)."
During production of the physics videos, Dr. John Risley, former physics professor and WebAssign's founder said, "I have reviewed physics educational software since the early '80s. This collection stands out as one of the best and most useful for teachers and students. These videos make learning physics simple and enjoyable."
"When I began teaching with WebAssign several years ago, I was immediately struck by the power of providing students with instant feedback, and the ability to create a wide range of question types," Bohacek emphasized.
Each video question provides custom feedback by suggesting ways to improve the quality of the measurement based on the student's answer. The result is an engaging new method for physics instruction that lets students clearly see and understand the real-life situation they are analyzing.
This question set is available with any WebAssign physics course at no additional cost. In addition to WebAssign's extensive selection of independently developed online instructional materials, the company also partners with every major academic publisher and offers a collection of more than 600 textbooks.
