Web-to-Mobile Messaging Solution (Application to Person -- A2P)
Text messaging is the exchange of brief written text messages, usually between mobile phones or mobile devices over a wireless network also referred to as person-to-person (P2P) communication. More recently, text messages are used to interact with automated systems (application-to-person A2P or web-to-mobile text messaging) such as ordering products and services, mobile office alerts, finance, mobile marketing services, voting, and corporate communications. Web-to-mobile solutions can be used for messages created by social networking, mobile banking services, ISP instant messaging, marketing, service provider notifications and purchased content deliveries commonly deployed as Short Code Services.
The technical challenge in A2P is that the Internet is IP address driven while mobile SMS is MSISDN (Phone Numbering Standard). This offered technology addresses this problem by creating two-way replies or threaded SMS conversations between Internet Protocol (IP) and Mobile Identification numbers. This technology encompasses both Short Codes Phone Numbers and Long Format Phone Numbers.
Value Proposition
This patent portfolio discloses techniques for two-way SMS text message communication between web applications and mobile devices. The technology disclosed includes a web-hosted SMS Gateway for connecting IP applications to the global wireless network and transmitting messages to and from mobile devices. The technology provides for:
- Correlating incoming and outgoing messages sent via SMS in either a Mobile Termination or Mobile Origination Mode to create threading and a message history;
- Maintaining the address of a sender and matching it with the reply in order to facilitate the forwarding of the reply to the correct address; and
- Manually originating messages by a mobile device user or automatically generating messages generated by a computer application such as a scheduling program operating on a LAN.
With a priority date from 1997, the patents in this portfolio have been cited by numerous information and communication technology companies including IBM, Verizon, France Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, Nokia Siemens, Google, Alcatel-Lucent, Sprint Nextel, LG Corp, AT&T, AOL, SAP, Research in Motion, Siemens, RPX and Motorola Mobility. The portfolio might be of interest to wireless telecommunication carriers, ISPs, social networking companies, 2-way IP- based mobile messaging services, instant messaging providers, content providers and other companies with a wireless internet presence.
"As social networking and smartphone usage continue to experience exponential growth rates, we see the A2P messaging segment to benefit from this growth thereby creating an estimated $70 billion segment in five years," said Dean Becker of ICAP Patent Brokerage. "Further, Bulletin's offered A2P technology is already deployed by medium to large enterprises and is in use by thousands of customers worldwide who recognize its innovation and value."
"We are looking forward to working with the ICAP Patent Brokerage team and are excited about their plans for helping us achieve full market value for our patented technologies," said Dave Macrae, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, Bulletin.net, Inc.
