WealthCounsel® Hosts Voting Contest on EstatePlanning.com for the Creating Lasting Legacies Video Competition
As part of a public awareness campaign to showcase the importance of proper planning, consumers are invited to vote for the most compelling video among 12 stories told by WealthCounsel attorneys
MADISON, Wis., June 4, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- WealthCounsel®, a nationwide collaborative organization for attorneys and wealth planning professionals, today announced it is hosting a public voting contest on www.estateplanning.com in conjunction with the Creating Lasting Legacies video competition. The voting contest opens today and closes on July 6, 2012. The top three vote-getters will be announced in mid-July at the 2012 Planning for the Generations Symposium in Denver, CO.
Members of the public are encouraged to visit www.estateplanning.com to view the videos and to vote for the most compelling story. The intent is to motivate individuals to reflect on their own situation and to examine whether they have planned properly for loved ones in the event of disability or death.
"WealthCounsel's role as industry leaders reaches beyond equipping attorneys and other professionals with the tools and resources they need to practice with excellence," said WealthCounsel's Chief Executive Officer Matthew T. McClintock, J.D. "We have a social responsibility to educate all Americans about the importance of proper planning so that they can make informed decisions about the legacies they leave. It is our hope that engaging individuals in the Creating Lasting Legacies campaign will do that," McClintock added.
The Creating Lasting Legacies competition officially kicked off with a WealthCounsel announcement last fall to commemorate National Estate Planning Awareness Week, October 17-23, 2011. Today's announcement comes on the heels of WealthCounsel's May 31, 2012 launch of EstatePlanning.com which WealthCounsel described as the nation's first consumer-facing estate planning portal of its type and scale.
In addition to the video contest, EstatePlanning.com features helpful content to engage readers on topics ranging from planning for disability and addressing elder care issues, to minimizing family conflict and structuring inheritances, and understanding asset protection, tax, and charitable planning strategies. A glossary of legal terms is provided for reference, and interactive search functionality helps connect visitors with estate planners near them. A consumer's poll on the home page asks visitors whether they have an estate plan or a will.
