We Energies Honored as a Tree Line USA Utility for Twelfth Consecutive Year
MILWAUKEE, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- We Energies is a recipient of the Tree Line USA Utility award for the twelfth consecutive year. Sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters, the award recognizes the company's efforts to provide dependable and reliable service, while using best-practice vegetation management techniques.
This year, 147 utility companies were recognized with Tree Line USA designations. The award goes to utilities that meet three requirements:
- A program of quality tree care
- Annual employee training in quality tree-care practices
- Tree planting and public education programs
"We're proud of our long and successful forestry track record," said Saul Lopez, manager – Forestry and Locating Right of Way for We Energies. "With the support of the communities we serve, we are able to show care and concern for the trees that create a better quality of life while further developing the relationships we have with our community partners. Customers can see that while we provide the best possible electric reliability we carry out our work with respect for their trees and property."
"We Energies has put its green foot forward, improving tree care by increasing public education, utilizing industry standards, and encouraging and planting the right tree in the right place," said Kim Gorenc Sebastian, regional urban forestry coordinator for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
Lopez encourages anyone planning to plant a tree on their property this spring to determine how tall and how wide the trees will be when they are fully grown, and then plant them where the trees will not come within 10 feet of power lines or other utility equipment. "Proper forestry clearance from power equipment also minimizes the chance of a curious child climbing a tree and coming in contact with a live electric line," said Lopez. "Across America, people are recognizing and celebrating how vital trees are to our cities and towns," said John Rosenow, chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation. "Trees help reduce peak demand by conserving energy. They also clean the air and water, increase property values, and make our homes more comfortable, livable places."
