WDIV-TV Local 4 Wins NAB Service to America Award
Honored as Top Broadcast Station in the Nation for Community Service
DETROIT, May 10, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- WDIV-TV Local 4 is being honored above all local broadcast stations in the country with the National Association of Broadcasters Service to America Award. The prestigious award recognizing WDIV's ongoing commitment to outstanding community service will be presented by the NAB Education Foundation on Monday, June 6 in Washington, D.C.
"This incredible honor reflects the hard work and contributions of every member of our WDIV team," said Marla Drutz, VP and General Manager of WDIV-TV. "Our commitment to serving those in our community permeates all we do at Local 4. With this Service to America Award in addition to our two 2011 Edward R. Murrow Awards, I am extremely proud that our efforts are being recognized on the national level."
The NAB Service to America Award recognizes the efforts of the entire station as a leader in serving the public with significant contributions from every department. Hallmarks of this station-wide commitment range from awarding-winning Good Health reports featuring Dr. Frank McGeorge, Ruth Spencer's Ruth to the Rescue consumer reports and Local 4 Defenders investigations on Local 4 News to live specials from Detroit's treasured events including America's Thanksgiving Parade and the Fireworks, unparalleled coverage of Decision 2010 featuring an exclusive Gubernatorial Debate, and Detroit's top weekly community affairs program, Flashpoint. Local 4 has hosted several on-air telethons and blood drives and has been a long-standing partner in the Race 4 The Cure. The highly successful Help 4 Haiti campaign raised over $2 million in donations for earthquake relief as Local 4 News anchor Carmen Harlan and Dr. Frank McGeorge travelled to Haiti to report in the wake of the devastation. In addition, WDIV became the first Detroit station to broadcast a signal for Mobile DTV, allowing viewers to watch news and programs on mobile devices.
Local 4 News is the #1 newscast at 4 p.m., 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. in Nielsen ratings for the Detroit television market, and Local 4 News at 11 p.m. is the highest-rated newscast of all NBC affiliates in the top 11 markets nationwide. WDIV Local 4's websites, www.ClickOnDetroit.com and www.JustWeather.com, are leading breaking news and weather websites in Michigan. Local 4 News is the proud recipient this year of two Edward R.
