Wayne State University Physician Group To Celebrate Groundbreaking Of $68 Million Medical Office Building
One-stop clinic to open in 2016 featuring multispecialty health care services
DETROIT, Sept. 22, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Officials from the Wayne State University Physician Group (WSUPG), along with The Ferchill Group and Midtown Project LLC, will hold a groundbreaking ceremony Sept. 22 celebrating the construction of a new five-story, $68 million medical office building at 3750 Woodward Ave. in Detroit. The project aligns with the economic revitalization of Detroit and the Midtown neighborhood, and features the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard M-1 RAIL station stop just steps from its door.
Expected to open in 2016, the 153,000-square-foot multispecialty medical facility and parking structure will centralize providers from nearby WSUPG clinics. The facility is projected to accommodate more than 200,000 patient appointments annually for primary and specialty care services. Ground-level retail space, including fast-casual dining, is planned.
"Wayne State University Physician Group is proud to play a role in shaping the future of health care in the city of Detroit and beyond," said Robert A. Frank, M.D., chief executive officer of WSUPG. "This expansion is driven by our strategic goal to become the health care partner of choice regionally, nationally and internationally." The Woodward Avenue groundbreaking coincides with the first day of patient care at the group's new clinical space in Troy.
The project site, formerly the Professional Plaza, is owned by Midtown Project LLC and WSUPG has been a tenant for more than 12 years. The new clinical and medical office space replaces an outdated and undersized two-story facility. The neighboring 12-story "hammer and nail" building is being independently developed.
Neumann/Smith Architecture designed the medical office building. T.H. Marsh Construction Co. is the construction management firm for the project.
