ATLANTA, Sept. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Wayne Roberts has been awarded the September, 2014 Chapter Champion Award from the Georgia Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (www.prsageorgia.org) in recognition of his dedicated volunteer work.
The award recognizes members who have significantly contributed to the Chapter's success and is given monthly or when appropriate. She was presented with a certificate and inscribed pen.
Roberts, who first joined the chapter in 1989, is currently serving on the Professional Development Committee and has been involved in determining the programming for this year's monthly meetings and seminars. He has also had a key role in the Chapter's Group Membership program by helping new group members assimilate into the fabric of PRSA Georgia.
"After a much too long hiatus, I was eager to reconnect with the Georgia Chapter because I missed contributing to an organization that has played an integral role in my professional development, especially soon after moving to Atlanta more than 25 years ago," he says. "Serving members by helping to organize topics of interest and guest speakers is my small way of giving back to PRSA in return for everything the chapter has done for me."
Roberts is Senior Vice President at Porter Novelli, where he works with clients including General Electric and Hewlett Packard. Wayne's career began in workplace communications with Digital Equipment, followed by Apple Computer and includes three technology start-ups. He holds a Master's in Mass Communications and an Honors Bachelor's in Political Science from the University of Western Ontario, where he serves on the school's graduate advisor committee. Wayne also has a Bachelor's in Industrial Relations from McGill University.
Because of this type of volunteerism, the Georgia Chapter ranks as the second-largest chapter in the nation and has been recognized for its best membership practices among PRSA chapters across the country.
PRSA's Georgia Chapter (www.prsageorgia.org) consists of some 850 members throughout Georgia. Its mission is to enhance the profession, provide continuing education and offer networking opportunities for its members.
The Chapter has monthly meetings, as well as eight Special Interest Groups (Corporate and Employee Communications, Healthcare, Independent Counselors, Leader Board, Nonprofit, Technology, Travel and Tourism, and Young Professionals) that meet at various times.
The Chapter supports 10 PRSSA (student society) groups at the following colleges: Berry College (Rome), Clark Atlanta University (Atlanta), Columbus State University (Columbus), Georgia College & State University (Milledgeville), Georgia State University (Atlanta), Georgia Southern University (Statesboro), Kennesaw State University (Kennesaw), Savannah State University (Savannah), University of Georgia (Athens), and University of West Georgia (Carrollton).
