Wayne Elsey is Named One of the Top 200 Global Philanthropists Along with Warren Buffett, Elon Musk, and Bill Gates
ORLANDO, Fla., Apr. 3, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Richtopia named Wayne Elsey as one of the top 200 global philanthropists and social entrepreneurs in its published list, "Philanthropists & Social Entrepreneurs Top 200: From Elon Musk to Melinda Gates, These Are the Most Influential Do-Gooders in the World."
Elsey's story grew to acclaim after the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami. At the time, Elsey was the president of Kodiak Group - USA which is an international shoe company. Elsey understood that the devastation brought to the millions of people affected by the natural disaster meant that so many had nothing. He knew millions of people had lost all of their worldly possessions, among so much more in the tragedy. The event inspired him to ship over 250,000 shoes from donors in North America to those affected.
That experience led Elsey to establish a nonprofit that placed over 20 million pairs of shoes on the feet of those in the greatest need in response to some of the world's natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina. Later, as a social entrepreneur, Elsey realized he could do a lot for so many people in North America and around the world by giving them a hand-up rather than a handout. Today, his company, Elsey Enterprises, offers consulting, fundraising and business services for nonprofits, social enterprises and for-profits looking to make the biggest social impact possible through several independent brands, including str@tegic, Funds2Orgs and Sneakers4Funds.
Of the Richtopia ranking, Elsey said, "I'm humbled to have been placed on a list of philanthropists like Warren Buffett, Bill and Melinda Gates and Elon Musk. It's been my experience that anyone, anywhere can think creatively and assist others around the world to help themselves. Funds2Orgs, for example, helps organizations and people raise money by collecting shoes. The shoes go to micro-entrepreneurs in developing nations who need work opportunities, and it prevents shoes from being thrown away." Elsey continued, "Frankly, the ranking couldn't have been made possible without the efforts of my team who consistently go above and beyond to make us a trusted brand and leader."
