Competitors in the privately held company category included: Acquia, Endeca, Karmaloop, and Kiva Systems. This marks the first time that Wayfair has been honored by MassTLC.
MassTLC also bestowed awards for several other categories: CEO Of The Year, Deal Of The Year, CIO Of The Year, Emerging Executive Of The Year, Policy Leader Of The Year, Workplace Development Leader Of The Year, and Innovation Catalyst Of The Year.
"We are delighted to be honored by such an influential and inspirational organization," said Wayfair.com's CEO and Co-Founder Niraj Shah. "While we sell a zillion things home to consumers nationwide, as an online retailer, technology is the foundation of our business. For MassTLC to choose us as the top private Company Of The Year in the tech sector is quite a distinction."
Wayfair just recently rebranded on September 1st after nine years as CSN Stores, a collection of more than 200 stores including Cookware.com, Luggage.com, WritingDesksAndMore.com, BedroomFurniture.com and many other sites. As part of the rebranding effort, the 200 CSN sites will be consolidated under Wayfair.com over the next few months. In terms of annual sales, Wayfair ranks as the No. 2 online retailer of home goods in the U.S., surpassing Crate&Barrel.
"We're honored to be able to give this award to Wayfair," said Tom Hopcroft, President and CEO of MassTLC. "Wayfair has grown significantly this year and last year amid a rollercoaster economy. The company continues to hire many talented Massachusetts engineers and its very presence in Boston is helping to fuel the growth of our tech sector. They've demonstrated innovative technology and market leadership with every step of their meteoric rise. We can't wait to see what's next at Wayfair."
Wayfair expects to surpass $500 million in sales by the end of this year. To keep its momentum going, Wayfair is in an active hiring mode, currently searching for more than 30 software engineers, while also trying to fill another 60 positions in category management, marketing, business intelligence and finance. Currently, Wayfair employs more than 700 people in Boston and another 150 staffers across its other offices in the U.S. and internationally.
