Waveform Technology completes 1 Megawatt Bitcoin Data Center Upgrade

TROY, Mich., Sept. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Waveform Technology LLC, one of Michigan's leading data center and Internet bandwidth providers, is pleased to announce the completion of the addition of 1 megawatts of electrical infrastructure upgrades to support the growing Bitcoin mining segment. This addition will make Waveform the largest Bitcoin friendly data center operator in Michigan with immediate availability.

This newly completed infrastructure upgrade coincides with an immediately available allocation of 40,000 square feet of data center floor space specifically allocated for Bitcoin mining equipment. This facility is has 2 separate electrical connections to our electrical utility, serviced by 2 separate electrical substations with a total of 4MW to the building. Bitcoin miners are specially designed computer servers that 'mine' Bitcoins by solving complex mathematical problems.  These servers present an unprecedented challenge to both electrical and cooling subsystems within a data center facility.

The heightened interest in Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies has grown an entire industry surrounding these mining servers.  Bitcoin Mining has progressed from a leading edge technology pioneered by hobbyists to large scale industrial type mining operations located in large data centers.
