DESTIN, Fla., Nov. 10, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Watertree Health, a leading provider of free prescription discount cards, today announced the formation of a groundbreaking national alliance with Make-A-Wish®. The new nationwide program benefitting Make-A-Wish will help accomplish two critical goals: increase the number of people who can afford their prescriptions; and help grant more wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions by raising funds for one of the nation's leading charities.
Currently, Watertree Health and Make-A-Wish have a pilot program in place with three chapters: Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida, Make-A-Wish Nebraska, and Make-A-Wish Arizona. Under the current program, each time the prescription discount card benefitting Make-A-Wish is used, Watertree Health makes a donation of 50 cents to the respective local Make-A-Wish chapter. To date, the pilot program has raised more than $80,000 to help participating chapters create life-changing wish experiences for wish kids. This new alliance builds on the success of the pilot program and expands the program nationally.
"We are extremely excited to join Make-A-Wish as a national sponsor. After seeing what the pilot program accomplished, by helping people save money on their prescriptions and helping to grant the wishes of some amazing kids, expanding the program was an easy decision," said Watertree Health President Shane Power. "We understand that it's not just medicine that helps these wonderful children, it's a positive outlook that gives them the courage to get better. This larger sponsorship will help ensure more funds are allotted to help make more wishes come true."
"Make-A-Wish is thrilled to welcome Watertree Health as a national sponsor. We are delighted to build upon an already fruitful relationship that in just a short period of time has contributed an impressive amount to three of our chapters," said David Williams, President and CEO of Make-A-Wish America. "We are excited to see what our two organizations will be able to accomplish and, more importantly, how many wish kids' lives we will be able to make better by working together on a national scale."
The prescription discount card, administered by Watertree Health, is free and available to everyone. It is accepted at 60,000 pharmacies across the country (including national, regional and local pharmacies such as CVS, Rite Aid, Walmart and Walgreens), and reduces the price of brand name and generic prescriptions by as much as 75 percent.
