WaterGenius.com Launches to Help Californians Save Water and Money During the Drought
Coming this summer: WaterGenius will power the Silicon Valley WaterGenius Challenge, a unique "Employee Rewards" pilot program.
OAKLAND, Calif., June 2, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Introducing WaterGenius, a free online tool for California homeowners that identifies the smartest ways to save water in homes during the drought. Using a fast and easy interface, WaterGenius produces customized recommendations on water-saving home improvements and provides an efficient way to find the best products and local services and take advantage of rebate offers and incentives. WaterGenius is available for free at www.WaterGenius.com.
Developed by BKi, a consulting and software company for energy, water and transportation, WaterGenius brings help to California homeowners who face mandatory water reductions and anticipated rate hikes of up to 30 percent. Examples of BKi's past and current clients include Santa Clara Valley Water District, East Bay MUD, PG&E, Southern California Edison, and the California Energy Commission.
"Over 90% of Californians are willing to make 'Significant Changes' to their own water use," said Brian Gitt, president and CEO of BKi, referring to a recent statewide poll commissioned by the Association of CA Water Agencies. "The problem is that most people don't know how to make an impactful change in their own homes. California homeowners can save water and money using WaterGenius, the first and only online tool that provides accurate customized recommendations based on users' specific local water utility rates and available rebates."
This summer, WaterGenius will power the Silicon Valley WaterGenius Challenge, a unique "Employee Rewards" pilot program designed to help a company's employees to save water at home. The WaterGenius Challenge will provide employees with customized recommendations for water saving opportunities in their homes, and will recognize and reward employees for taking action. The Silicon Valley WaterGenius Challenge is made possible by the Santa Clara Valley Water District, which awarded BKi an innovation grant to implement the program.
"A drought of this magnitude requires innovation," said Jerry De La Piedra, Santa Clara Valley Water District's Water Use Efficiency Manager. "Whether it's through rebates, conservation tips, online tools like WaterGenius, or new programs like the Silicon Valley WaterGenius Challenge, we are exhausting all opportunities to reach our local water use reduction target of 30 percent."
The Bay Friendly Landscaping & Gardening Coalition, a non-profit organization that works in partnership with public agencies, the landscape industry, and property owners to reduce waste and pollution, is supporting WaterGenius and the Silicon Valley WaterGenius Challenge as a partner. Companies interested in partnering with this innovative program can email [email protected].
WaterGenius is available for free at WaterGenius.com and will be released as an app for iPhone and Android in the coming months. Silicon Valley-based large employers interested in participating in the Silicon Valley WaterGenius Challenge can email [email protected].
