Waterfall Security Solutions Announces Support for OSIsoft PI Asset Framework

With this new version of the Waterfall PI connector, Waterfall Security Solutions replicates the PI Asset Framework from safety-critical and reliability-critical networks to corporate networks, creating new possibilities for secure integration.

The OSIsoft PI Asset Framework provides uniform access to a wide variety of plant data sources. The new Waterfall solution allows all of data managed by the Asset Framework to be made available to business applications without introducing any risk to the safety or reliability of control system assets. The Waterfall solution replicates the Asset Framework itself to business networks, and replicates data sources accessible through plant AF installations out to business networks, both in like-to-like replications as well as in many-to-PI replications.

The Asset Framework integration adds to an already-impressive list of capabilities for the Waterfall Unidirectional Security Gateway solution for secure PI integration. Critical infrastructure owners and operators can replicate a wide variety of PI data and configurations automatically, allowing for a true single point of administration for PI systems. The Waterfall agent software can be installed on dedicated servers, on shared servers, on PI servers themselves, or on virtual machines. No changes whatsoever are needed to the PI servers or to the configuration of the PI solution in order to deploy the Waterfall gateways.

The Waterfall Unidirectional Security Gateway solution supports throughputs from 100Mbps through multiple 1Gbps links, as well as true high-availability operation. The Waterfall solution supports a diversity of versions of PI systems on different sides of the replication, and allows sites to mix-and-match high-availability PI servers on the plant side, or the business side of the Waterfall solution, or both. Control systems can feed the corporate PI servers from the industrial PI server, as well as from OPC, Modbus, DNP3 and other raw data sources.
