Waste Management Refuses to Continue Bargaining
Company Proposal Falls Short on Healthcare Protections for Sanitation Workers
SEATTLE, April 16 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Waste Management today refused to resume bargaining with sanitation workers in King and Snohomish County represented by Teamsters Local 174.
"We are disappointed that Waste Management continues to refuse to provide its sanitation workers with the same healthcare protections provided by every other major waste company in Seattle," said Rick Hicks, Secretary Treasurer of Teamsters Local 174. "It just doesn't make sense that the largest, most profitable waste company in the country is not willing to take care of sanitation workers that put their bodies on the line every day to protect the public health."
Teamster local unions from across the country met today in Seattle to discuss Waste Management's approach bargaining in Seattle. At the meeting union leaders voted unanimously to support Seattle sanitation workers efforts to win a fair contract.
