Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California Reaches Agreement for Amended Tribal-State Gaming Compact with State of Nevada
Wa She Shu Casino Offerings to be Expanded
GARDNERVILLE, Nev., Feb. 8, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- After significant intergovernmental negotiations, the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California ("Tribe") has entered into an amended tribal-state gaming compact ("Amended Compact") with the State of Nevada. The Amended Compact was approved by the United States Secretary of the Interior and became effective on January 18, 2018. The final agreement demonstrates the Tribe's dedication to partnering with the State to ensure the sound regulation of gaming on the Tribe's land while ensuring that the general welfare of the Washoe Tribe is protected. It was championed by the Washoe Tribe in partnership with the Wa She Shu Casino to expand the offerings to its casino patrons.
The Amended Compact amends and replaces the previous "Slots Only Compact" between the Tribe and the State previously entered into in 2004. Under the new terms of the new compact, the Tribe will now have the opportunity to offer all forms of Class III Gaming offered elsewhere in the state of Nevada and will be treated like any other landowner. There is no longer a limit on slot quantities, gaming locations, or the type of games offered.
"I appreciate the Governor's efforts to negotiate this compact with the Washoe Tribe as a sovereign government," said Neil Mortimer, Chairman of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California. "We think this will prove to be an extremely valuable agreement that reflects modern practices in gaming and will benefit both the Washoe Community and the State of Nevada." "We are excited that we can now offer our customers all forms of gaming including table games and a sports book in the future at the Wa She Shu Casino," said General Manager, Amy Wasilewski.
The Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California is a federally recognized Indian tribe with its headquarters in Gardnerville, Nevada and has partnered with The Poarch Creek Indian Gaming Authority to operate the Wa She Shu Casino in Gardnerville, Nevada.
