Washington DC's Infinity Stage Launches the Debut of Musical 'Revolutionary Gentleman' April 13
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Feb. 6, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Infinity Stage will debut the historical tragic-comic musical Revolutionary Gentleman in the Kauffman Auditorium of the Lee Center in Old Town Alexandria April 13-15 at 7:30 pm. Ten years in the making, the musical, in the tradition of Hamilton, is directed by Washington DC-area writer/composer Steven W Rodgers.
A tongue-in-cheek, behind-the-scenes look at the American Revolution as seen through the eyes of Benedict Arnold, this play explores the true meaning of loyalty and betrayal, as General Arnold's wife has an affair with English officer, John Andre. In the meantime, the general must fight against the petty jealousies of the sniveling, peevish, President of the Council, Mr. Reed.
"What do you do when faced with the choice between the loyalty you have for your nation, and loyalty to the woman you love? What could he do? What would any of us have done?" says Steven W Rodgers, who is also directing and producing the play, adding, "I loved discovering the characters' foibles and idiosyncrasies. Ben had once written a poignant love letter to Betsy Dubois. When she rejects him, he merely crosses out the name 'Betsy' and changes it to 'Peggy,' giving her the letter instead." Oregon writer Carolyn Tracy, who contributed extensively to the lyrics, came to admire the man. "Ben was a great general. We probably would not have won the Revolution without him. But he betrayed his country and he betrayed George Washington, his closest friend, making this less a story of war, and more of a story about loyalty."
Revolutionary Gentleman stars New York City actor Peter Quentin Smith as Benedict Arnold, and local actors Laura Whittenberger, Elizabeth Colandene, Cameron Lee Conlan, Mike Baker, Jr., and Jackie Madejski. Aarron Loggins will be interpreting the musical all three nights in its entirety, in American Sign Language.
Also in the cast are Emily Samuelson, Sara Breaux, Anna Maria Shockey, Julie Britt, Erica Haire, Craig Goeringer, Kurt Gustafson, Jake Ehrlich, Brighid Hughes and Jonathan Newport.
The production is three nights only, Thursday- Saturday, April 13-15 at 7:30 PM at Lee Center, 1108 Jefferson Street, Old Town Alexandria. Parking is free. E-tickets are on sale now at www.InfinityStage.com Cost is $34 adults/ $29 for children, students and seniors.
