RICHMOND, Va., Jan. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Washington, D.C. will experience on average a 222 percent* daily increase of travelers on and around the 2017 Presidential Inauguration, according to an analysis of travelers' booking intent by leading travel insurance provider Allianz Global Assistance.
The findings showed that more than 114,000 people plan on traveling to D.C. on January 18 (10,833 people), 19 (27,874 people), 20 (56,933 people) and 21 (18,445 people), according to analysis of customers searching for travel from Election Day (November 8) through December 8, 2016 to Ronald Reagan National Airport, Dulles International Airport, BWI Thurgood Marshall International Airport and Union Station train station. The analysis shows that 276 percent more travelers were planning to travel to D.C. on inauguration day compared to the two Fridays prior to and following the inauguration.
"With an upsurge of people going to Washington D.C. before, on and after the inauguration, it's important to check the box for travel insurance," said Daniel Durazo, director of communications at Allianz Global Assistance USA. "While it can't coordinate diplomacy, the right travel insurance policy can provide coverage and assistance for many unforeseen or unexpected events like covered trip cancelations and delays, lost, stolen or delayed luggage, medical emergencies and more."**
