LOS ANGELES, May 19, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- IMAX Corporation (NYSE:IMAX; TSX:IMX), Warner Bros. Pictures, a division of Time Warner Inc. (NYSE:TWX), and Legendary Entertainment today announced that Godzilla™ has grossed approximately $21.2 million in 539 IMAX® 3D theatres globally since its release Thursday, May 15, making it the highest-grossing IMAX opening weekend of 2014.
Godzilla grossed approximately $14.2 million in 352 North American IMAX 3D theatres and approximately $7 million in 187 international IMAX theatres, resulting in a strong IMAX worldwide per-screen average of approximately $40,000. Overall, Godzilla grossed approximately $93.2 million for Warner Bros. domestically and $196.6 million worldwide.
IMAX reported dozens of individual theatre records across its global network and breakout international territories for the Company included Taiwan, Austria, Germany, New Zealand and the UK. The film is set to open in IMAX theatres across China on June 13.
