Green Golf Partners Sees Significant Uptick in November and December
Above Normal Temperatures Abound with the Holiday Season in Full Swing
CHICAGO and INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Indianapolis-based Green Golf Partners (GGP), which manages 17 golf courses in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Wisconsin and the Southeast, is experiencing significant growth in rounds played with unseasonably warm weather in the upper Midwest continuing well into December.
"This continued stretch of blue skies and warmer temperatures have created additional 'bonus' revenue that goes directly to our golf properties' bottom line," said Matt McIntee, CEO of Green Golf Partners. "General managers at our courses from Des Moines to Milwaukee and from Indianapolis to Chicago are working overtime to meet the unprecedented demand for serious and casual golfers who want to play before snow blankets the courses."
So Why is there Warm Weather in December?
Mike Halpert, deputy director at NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, said earlier this week that the warmth in the Midwest and Eastern U.S. cannot be tied to El Nino just yet. The conditions in the upper atmosphere over the mid-latitudes, where most of the U.S. land mass is situated, has not shown the classic El Nino pattern. Moreover, Halpert said that an atmospheric phase known as positive North Atlantic Oscillation (+NAO) is responsible for the current mild pattern in the Midwest and Eastern U.S.
Since December 1, the National Weather Service has reported temperatures as high as the upper 50's to low 60's during the day. The average temperature this time of year normally is around 36 degrees in Chicago That is an unusual blessing for dedicated amateur and professional golfers alike.
"It's the holiday season and Mother Nature has given an early present to amateur golfers who are continuing to play this year," said Roy Michael, General Manager for Jester Park Golf Club in Granger, Iowa. "We did more than 120 rounds on Tuesday and 130 on Wednesday. Most courses in the area do not reach that level in their prime time season during the summer."
