Walsh College Hosts the Mark Solomon Tax Symposium on September 26 in Troy

TROY, Mich., Aug. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Taxation professionals are invited to attend a scholarly symposium at the Walsh College Troy campus on September 26, 2013, held in honor of Mark Solomon, a tax and business professor at Walsh for more than 30 years. 

"Professor Solomon is a Michigan legend in the field of taxation and business law education," said Walsh College executive vice president and chief academic officer Dr. David Shields. "He was among the first instructors in the master's in tax program at Walsh, and his pursuit of educational excellence elevated the program to one of the best in the country. We honor his legacy through this symposium, through our Tax Research Center, through our graduates, and through the scholarship in his name."

Accountants, attorneys, academics, students and other business professionals were invited to submit proposals for the school's first official taxation conference. A distinguished panel of judges chose the best proposals to produce scholarly papers, which will be presented and published in the official record of the day's proceedings. 

Symposium presenters are Jill Babcock from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) ; Mark Burger, Jennifer Sanderson and Dan Hoops from Walsh College; and Catherine McCollum and Joni Larson from Cooley Law School. 

The symposium will begin at 8 a.m. on September 26 in the Jeffery Barry Center Auditorium and conclude before noon. Admission fee for the symposium is $25 for Walsh College alumni and $15 for Walsh College students. Other professionals may attend the program for a $50 fee. The proceedings are eligible for professional development and continuing education credit.
