Walnut Hill Medical Center Receives Accreditation From The Joint Commission
Designation qualifies WHMC to accept Medicare, Medicaid and Most Insurance Plans
DALLAS, June 2, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Walnut Hill Medical Center (WHMC), a new 8-story, 100-bed, acute-care hospital, has received accreditation and earned the Gold Seal of Approval® from The Joint Commission, an independent, not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 20,500 health care organizations and programs in the United States. The accreditation means that WHMC is qualified to participate in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services programs and most other insurance plans.
Prior to receiving accreditation, a team of Joint Commission expert surveyors evaluated WHMC for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management. The standards address important functions relating to the care of patients and the management of hospitals. The standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts and patients.
"Walnut Hill Medical Center is pleased to receive this important accreditation," said Cory Countryman, WHMC's president and CEO. "We are now able to formally accept most forms of health care coverage including Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance plans. This provides us with the opportunity to provide the residents of our service area and beyond with the special patient-focused care for which we are becoming known. The Joint Commission accreditation also signifies our commitment to the organization's high quality standards and its focus on continuous improvement. Accreditation provides us with a framework to take our organization to the next level and helps create a culture of excellence. Achieving Joint Commission accreditation, for our organization, is a major step toward maintaining excellence and continually improving the care we provide."
To receive The Joint Commission accreditation, WHMC provided surveyors with inpatient records that they reviewed using a standard set of evaluation criteria. "In achieving The Joint Commission accreditation, Walnut Hill Medical Center has demonstrated its commitment to the highest level of care for its patients," said Mark G. Pelletier, RN, MS, chief operating officer, Division of Accreditation and Certification Operations, The Joint Commission. "Accreditation is a voluntary process and I commend Walnut Hill Medical Center for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate its standard of care and instill confidence in the communities it serves."
