Walmart Gets Cut With Razor Sharp Lawsuit; Allegedly Steals Shaving Invention
Sharidan Stiles of Stiles Razor sues Walmart for antitrust antics
SAN FRANCISCO, June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Sharidan Stiles founder and CEO of Stiles 4 U, Inc. sues Walmart for antitrust tactics. The story starts when the multibillion-dollar corporation contracts Stiles Razor to sell its patented personal styling razors. But then terminates their contract and allegedly recreates the invention, hiring a competitor, American International Industries, to manufacture a knock-off product. Walmart then sells the pirated version to the masses, removing Stiles Razor from Walmart shelves and sending Stiles to collections for unsold merchandise.
Sharidan Stiles, founder and CEO of Stiles 4 U, Inc., the company responsible for Stiles Razor, created an ergonomic razor, with a 1/8 inch blade, designed to shave unique areas from eyebrows and bikini to goatee and scalp art. With no other razors satisfying those specialty needs, Sharidan was poised for very successful partnerships with retailers like Amazon, eBay, Target, and Walmart.
"As potentially one of the smallest suppliers doing business with a retail giant like Walmart, I made sure to put in numerous hours of research," says Sharidan. "For me, that meant studying their layout, stock, traffic pattern, shoppers in the aisle. And of course, understanding the expectations they had of their would-be suppliers."
When she presented her invention to Walmart, she was granted a test run in 500 of their stores. The run was successful, producing almost $250,000 in sales. With such a successful launch, Walmart increased the product line, with Stiles designing and manufacturing the razors locally in the United States.
Stiles ensured that her product evolved with new iterations of design and function to grow her company. And its sales continued to increase. Then without notice, their contract was terminated.
Walmart cancelled future production from Stiles Razor, removed the product from their shelves, and charged Ms. Stiles for the entire inventory that was returned. They not only returned her product, but they also sent a collection agency to recoup all the monies they cited as a "loss." Shardian claims that Walmart then had the Stiles Razor copied and produced by Stiles' competitor, American International Industries.
Stiles and Walmart will go face-to-face within the upcoming weeks. More information is available upon request.
