Walk for Adoption to Help Local Children Join Adoptive Families
Jordan's Furniture to host Walk this Sunday May 19, 2013
BOSTON, May 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- "What makes a house feel like a home?" asks Jordan's Furniture CEO Eliot Tatelman. "It's not furniture," comes the surprising answer, "It's family. But hundreds of kids living right here in Massachusetts are waiting for all the comforts of home AND family," he added.
That's why Jordan's Furniture, a long-time champion for children in state foster care, is hosting the Walk for Adoption Sunday, May 19 at the Jordan's Furniture's Taunton facility, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.
Jordan's Furniture and The Massachusetts Adoption Resource Exchange (MARE) are organizing the 4th annual Walk for Adoption to benefit its work to recruit adoptive parents for children and teens in state foster care. Over 600 local children are currently growing up in temporary foster care while waiting for permanent, loving homes. MARE's programs to find adoptive families include Wednesday's Child on WBZ TV, children's profiles in newspapers statewide, and the Heart Gallery portrait exhibit displayed in libraries, stores, and shopping malls. MARE has helped more than 5,900 children leave foster care for permanent families over the past 55 years.
The Walk will kick-off at 10 am with opening remarks from Jordan's President/CEO Eliot Tatelman
The Walk for Adoption is a fun-filled celebration of adoption, featuring a 5K (or shorter) non-competitive walk. The post-walk party includes face painting, balloon art, spin art and other crafts, along with James Photobooth, the National Black Doll Museum, raffles, Dave & Buster's Prize Wheel, and lunch.
Teams of adoptive families, friends, coworkers, students, and social workers are forming now. Walk participants can register online at www.FirstGiving.com/MARE. Over 500 participated in last year's Walk, and raised $80,000 to help children join adoptive families.
The Walk for Adoption is sponsored by Jordan's Furniture, StoneTurn Group, WebsterOneSource, WickedLocal, Brookline Bank, Hannaford Supermarkets, Performance Pediatrics, and Kohl's Cares for Kids.

MARE is a private, non-profit organization, working since 1957 to find a "permanent place to call home" for youth in foster care. Because every child deserves a "forever family."
