MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 17, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Walden University and Tubman partnered on October 14 during Walden's Global Days of Service to give back to the community in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The half-day event, which drew nearly 85 volunteers at Tubman's Maplewood center, brought together Walden University faculty, staff, students and alumni in Minnesota to paint, organize, assemble furniture, and conduct yard and garden clean-up in support of Tubman's work in the community.
"Community service is an important value at Walden, and an essential way for us to make a positive impact. We are pleased to partner with Tubman for our project this year to help raise awareness for the critical work they do in our community," said Jonathan Kaplan, president of Walden University.
"Everyone can be a part of our vision for thriving people, healthy relationships and peaceful communities," said Jennifer J. Polzin, Tubman's chief executive officer. "We appreciate Walden's support so we can continue providing these life-changing services that people want and need."
Tubman provides safe shelter, legal services, mental and chemical health counseling, youth programs and community education to the Twin Cities communities.
This year marked Walden University's 12th annual Global Days of Service, a weeklong volunteer event when the university's community is encouraged to make a difference in their communities. In 2016, more than 220,000 volunteer hours were contributed as part of the initiative. Volunteering with Tubman was one of many Global Days of Service projects initiated by the Walden community worldwide during the month of October in support of the university's commitment to social change.
