Walden University Names New Recipients of Project Working Mom 2010 Full-Tuition Scholarships

MINNEAPOLIS, July 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Walden University has selected five additional working parents to receive Project Working Mom 2010 full-tuition scholarships, joining the first five scholarship recipients announced in April. Walden is participating in the Project Working Mom scholarship program as part of its commitment to help working adults transform themselves as scholar-practitioners so they can make a greater impact in their professions and their communities.

The five working parents chosen to pursue their degrees at Walden are:

• Lisa Blauvelt of Como, Miss.—M.S. in Education
• Jane Butler of Tucson, Ariz.—M.S. in Education
• David Leist of Shiner, Texas—M.S. in Education
• Debra Smith of Jackson, Miss.—Ph.D. in Public Health
• Vicki Welch of Henderson, Nev.—Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

"My career has revolved around spending time teaching young adults how to read, write and, most importantly, think as compassionate citizens of a larger community," said scholarship recipient Jane Butler. "I am going to make history with an online master's degree by impacting student learning, building a community among teachers and being a positive role model for my students and family members."

Fellow scholarship recipient David Leist said, "An M.S. in Education will begin my dream of one day becoming a principal. It is extremely difficult for a single parent to be at every sporting event, every cheerleading event and every school event as well as work on a college degree. I feel that an online education from Walden University will give me the ability to be a parent and a sole provider for my family as well as a student."
