MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- According to the National Center for Education Statistics, job opportunities for teachers will continue to rise, with many openings over the next decade anticipated due to the retirement of baby boomers. Walden University's Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership, which is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, is introducing a new online BS in Elementary Education (Teacher Licensure) program to help meet this need. This bachelor's degree program will help prepare students for teaching certification, which is required in most public school systems in the United States.
The BS in Elementary Education program builds on Walden's long history of enhancing educator effectiveness through higher education in order for students to succeed. The program incorporates strategies to help students develop confidence and succeed in today's diverse classroom environments and become highly effective professional teachers.
"Teaching our youth is a critically important career, and at Walden, we are proud to offer a flexible program that will meet the needs of today's best teacher candidates and provide them with the quality foundation for success," said Dr. Janet Williams, dean of the School of Education and Professional Licensure.
The program is designed to create well-rounded teacher candidates through core and general education courses, as well as higher-level courses focused on certification preparation and the real-world classroom experience. Coursework will explore the integration of technology in the classroom, building family partnerships, collaboration, and literacy, and will incorporate the opportunity to apply best practices through in-person experiences in kindergarten through sixth-grade classrooms.
The Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University focuses on providing working professionals with the education they need to make a difference within their schools and communities. The BS in Elementary Education is the first undergraduate program for elementary school educators that has been added to its offerings.
