Walden University Announces NEA Excellence in Public School Education Scholarship Program

MINNEAPOLIS, Feb. 14, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Richard W. Riley College of Education and Leadership at Walden University, in partnership with the National Education Association (NEA) Academy, has created $100,000 in scholarship opportunities for NEA members who are making a positive impact on public school education as leaders within their schools or communities. This scholarship was created to recognize the importance of leadership and social change in the public school system.

"We know that better teachers make a significant difference in our nation's public schools," said Dr. Kate Steffens, dean of Walden's Riley College of Education and Leadership. "Walden is proud to offer NEA members scholarships toward two of our online master's degree programs that can help provide them with strategies to be more effective in the classroom and to enhance their students' learning and success."

The NEA Excellence in Public School Education Scholarship Program will award 40 annual scholarships of $2,500 each to individuals who have provided leadership in public school education within the NEA or an NEA-affiliated SIG-funded school. To qualify, an applicant must be an NEA member and a current student in Walden's M.S. in Education or M.S. in Instructional Design and Technology program or planning to enroll in either of these programs for the May or June 2011 start date. Applicants must also submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words and a letter of recommendation by March 4, 2011, to [email protected].
