LOS ANGELES, Aug. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water announced today the successful sponsorship of six new Elephant Pumps in rural Malawi through its longstanding partnership with Pump Aid. The pumps, which provide clean water to disadvantaged communities, have already transformed the lives of hundreds of individuals this year alone, resulting in more children in school, fewer water-borne illnesses, more nutritious food, and an increase in local employment.
Since its founding in 2012, Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water has implemented some of the most significant ethical and sustainability initiatives in its industry, its clean water projects being particularly impactful. Already, its alliance with Pump Aid has resulted in more than 500 million liters of donated water.
"From the start, Waiakea has been on a mission to sustainably provide a healthy and delicious product, while also working toward better clean water access, conservation, and education for those in need," said Ryan Emmons, founder of Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water. "It's a tall order, but through our work with both local programs here in Hawaii and larger initiatives, like our work with Pump Aid, we are getting closer and closer to our goal each day."
A charitable organization dedicated to direct-to-community implementation of clean water supply and sanitation services, Pump Aid regularly establishes clean water producing "Elephant Pumps" throughout rural Africa. Once installed, the organization then teaches local villagers how to work and maintain the pumps, ensuring communities have safe water for life. For every liter of Waiakea that is sold, the premium water brand donates the equivalent of 650 liters of safe water through Pump Aid.
"We are very proud of and grateful for the impact we've managed to make in Malawi with Pump Aid," said Emmons. "Some of these villages are incredibly small—as little as 48 people—and so they often go unnoticed. But whether it is a village of hundreds of people, like Makata, or a smaller one, like Puwere, at the end of the day this is someone's home. All people deserve to have access to safe water and children should not have to worry whether or not the water they drink will make them sick. So far this year, we have sponsored six pumps in six communities. I'd like to see at least six more before the year is done."
In addition to its impressive work with Pump Aid, Waiakea Hawaiian Volcanic Water is also regarded for its particularly sustainable and healthful water source. In fact, the naturally alkaline and electrolyte-rich water brand is the first of its kind to be certified CarbonNeutral® for its outstanding eco-initiatives.
