ROCHESTER, N.Y., May 18, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Vuzix® Corporation (NASDAQ: VUZI), a leading supplier of Video Eyewear and Smart Glasses products in the consumer, commercial and entertainment markets, today announced a new partnership with Octovis, Inc., the creator of a telemedicine platform – Telle™ – which integrates Vuzix' M100 Smart Glasses technology. Octovis, Inc. is now shipping and has received substantial interest from industry leaders after deploying its highly mobile telemedicine platform to multiple medical facilities throughout the United States.
Octovis' secure, HIPAA compliant Telle™ platform combines multiple Bluetooth® enabled medical devices, such as an EKG, pulse oximeter, stethoscope, otoscope, and others, to bring the examination room to the patient's bedside. With the addition of these devices, the Vuzix M100 allows a local caregiver to act as the eyes and ears of a remote physician located anywhere in the world. Enabled by Octovis' cloud services, caregivers can now collaborate in real time, a connection previously not possible with traditional telephonic and video based approaches. With Telle™, quality care is no longer restricted to medical rooms and hospitals.
Paul Travers, President and CEO of Vuzix, said, "This partnership underscores how our M100 technology continues to enable advances in the medical field, an area that remains a focus for Vuzix. We are excited to see Octovis shipping Telle as medical professionals can now utilize our smart glasses technology with Octovis' Telle™ application to share critical patient information in real-time to vastly improve the quality of remote patient care."
"We created Telle™ as a way to extend the reach of physicians while not sacrificing medical context in the name of efficiency, an aspect inherent in many telemedicine approaches." said Ryan Macy, President and CEO of Octovis Inc. "With the Vuzix M100 and our other integrated devices, we are able to create a truly immersive engagement for patient care. This has led to improvements across the board, one of the most significant being measurable reductions in hospital readmissions for the post-acute care market. The Vuzix M100 adds a point of view perspective to the most important focus, the patient."
The Vuzix M100 Smart Glasses are a hands free glasses worn display and wearable computer designed for the enterprise, industrial, and medical user. The M100 contains a virtual display with an integrated camera and a powerful processing engine, running the Android® OS to wirelessly connect via Bluetooth or WiFi directly to most standard networks or to a smartphone or other compatible device.
